It’s still that time of year. The time for sickness. Yuck. Especially the stomach bug! Just this past weekend we were out of town and my sister came down with it. But, even when it’s not that time of year, there are still a lot of things you can do that will keep you healthy.
I’ve always had tummy issues. It’s caused me a lot of pain and sick days over the years. I’ve learned a good way to keep my gut healthy is by taking probiotics.
What is a probiotic?
Probiotics are live bacteria and yeasts that are good for your health, especially your digestive system. We usually think of bacteria as something that causes diseases. But your body is full of bacteria, both good and bad. Probiotics are often called “good” or “helpful” bacteria because they help keep your gut healthy.

I like to keep probiotics on me in case I’m ever feeling icky when I’m out and about, or just as extras in case I forget to take them! Olly vitamins makes this really easy with their probiotic quick melt sticks. They fit easily in my purse, diaper bag, or gym bag and they’re even easier to take! Just pour them in your mouth and they’ll dissolve almost instantly! A good probiotic can really help with your nausea and other pregnancy woes like constipation and stomach aches. I try to take one every day to keep me feeling great! (There is no data that suggests probiotics are unsafe for pregnancy, however, always consult with your doctor first)
Olly also makes quick melt probiotic sticks for children (ages 4+), great for keeping your kiddos health on track!
I also like to keep a good hand santizer in my purse or diaper bag to keep away germs and keep us healthy! This hand sanitizer pictured is from Grove Collaborative, but I have also been known to make my own. Head here for the recipe! When I’m pregnant, getting sick is 1,000 times worse. I’m already feeling yucky and then getting a virus on top of it? No, thank you. I have to try my hardest to keep the germs away!
These peppermint beadlets from DoTERRA are a must have for me. They’re great for nausea or when I’m feeling icky. It’s especially important I have them with me during pregnancy, when the nausea is no joke. Peppermint has been known to calm the tummy so anything like peppermint beadlets, peppermint oil, or even just mint chewing gum can really really help when you’re feeling nauseous or have an upset stomach. I always have gum or peppermint beadlets with me for when morning sickness (read: all day sickness) strikes, and it can really help!
Not pictured: A small snack and tylenol.
Often times I’m feeling my worst when I’m hungry. I even get more nauseous when I’m hungry so I try to stay full. I try to keep crackers or a granola bar with me in my bag at all times in case hunger strikes. I also always have tylenol. When you’re pregnant you can’t have ibuprofen, alieve, or anything else. Tylenol is the only painkiller approved for pregnancy, so it’s important I have it with me for those killer headaches or body aches.
