Valentine’s Weekend Recap

I had such a wonderful Valentine’s weekend! I hope you did too! Kurtis had the whole weekend off! I don’t even remember the last time that happened! We got to spend two consecutive days with him and had so much fun.

We’re not super into Valentine’s Day. We like to celebrate it (and celebrate us), but we don’t like to make a big deal about it. We have so many gift giving holidays in the winter (both our birthdays, Christmas, and then our anniversary), that by the time Valentine’s Day rolls around, we just want to do something low key.

I got a pass to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo for my birthday, so that’s what we decided to do on Saturday! It’s about an hour away so we packed up the diaper bag and hit the road.

Since we started supplementing with a little formula, day trips have gotten a lot less stressful for me. I don’t have to worry about trying to find a comfortable place to nurse (at a zoo- impossible), or having enough pumped milk for a breastmilk bottle. Instead, I usually nurse before we leave, give him a bottle or some solids while we’re out, and then nurse when we get home. So much easier!

Sawyer napped the whole way there and was in a great mood the whole time we were there. Seriously, he was ecstatic. He was giggling and squealing the whole time. Even as we were just walking down the sidewalk with no animals in sight. We were almost shocked by how much fun he was having. Seeing him have fun made it so much more fun for us.

What’s special about the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is you can feed the giraffes. Sawyer is obsessed with his Sophie the Giraffe toy so we knew he would love it (although I doubt he made the connection).

It was a blast and the weather was so nice! The sun started to set behind the mountain and it got chilly so we packed up and headed home.

On Sunday we went to church, and then to Qdoba for lunch. Every Valentine’s Day you can get BOGO burritos at Qdoba if you kiss someone in line.

Then, we headed home for some post church naps and SNL viewing (a Sunday afternoon must).

For dinner, we have a tradition! We always do a heart shaped pizza at home for Valentine’s Day. I pick it up from Papa Murphy’s and bake it in the oven. Super easy. This year, Kurtis baked me a cake! My favorite, funfetti. We also cracked open a bottle of wine and settled in to watch the finale of Mad Men on Netflix (we’ve been watching the series for a few months now and finally finished!).

It was such a wonderful weekend! What’s your favorite way to celebrate Valentine’s Day?

Xoxo.
