Month 4

Once again, I’m late getting this up. I slacked in getting him in for his 4 month check up and I wanted to wait to have his new measurements before I posted this!

Sawyer is 4.5 months old! I can’t believe it!

He weights 12 lbs 13.5 oz and is 25 inches long!

He’s starting to hold his own head for longer stretches, he’s in the beginning stages of rolling over, and talking all the time!

He’s developing a little slower than other babies his age. We talked to his pediatrician about it at his checkup. She says not to worry about it and that we shouldn’t compare him to other 4 months olds but to other 3 month olds, since he was 5 weeks early. And compared to other 3 month olds, he’s doing just fine!

He’s discovered his hands, and loves to grab things and is starting to play with toys on his own! He started the beginning stages of teething and is always sticking his hands in his mouth. Nothing has popped through yet, and probably won’t for a while longer, but you can see the little white buds beneath the gums. They made him really cranky for a few weeks but now I think they’ve stalled and aren’t bothering him as much.

He loves when we lay him down on the floor for playtime! It’s so fun to watch him interact. We’ve been doing a lot more tummy time and exercising his legs and hips. Because he was breech he’s at a higher risk for hip dysplasia. His pediatrician is running lots of ultrasounds and X-rays on his hips as he grows to make sure they’re okay and we do lots of exercises and stretches at home.

He still sleeps pretty well, although he seems to be going through that dreaded 4 month sleep regression everyone warned me about! He’s always able to be soothed back to sleep easily but he’s waking up more often than normal. We’ve just started to try transitioning him out of the swaddle. It’s not going well so far, any advice is greatly appreciated.

He’s in 3-6 month clothing and we’re having so much fun with his winter outfits.

I’ve gotten to the point where newborn babies almost make me sad. My baby is so big now! But we’re having such fun watching him grow and hit new milestones.

He loves to be worn, play video games with daddy, play on the floor, sit in his mamaroo, and watch Sesame Street. He’s starting to hate his car seat if he’s not actually in the car, and fights sleep for as long as he can!

I can’t believe it’s November already. I can’t wait for our first holiday season as a family of 3!
