We decided it was time to transition Sawyer to a toddler bed around the same time we brought Oliver home. Because we’re crazy, of course.
But, it was so easy. The very first night he did not get out of bed once. Not once. And he slept all the way through the night! We thought it might be a crazy fluke but since then, he still never gets out of bed at night! It’s amazing, I thought it was going to be such a battle, but it wasn’t at all. Our secret?

I had such big plans for Sawyer’s second birthday. There was a whole pinterest board dedicated to fun ideas and DIYs. I was going to make all the snacks and decorations myself. There was going to be tons of fun activities, all his friends and our friends were going to be there and it was going to be the perfect summer afternoon.
Then, reality set in. I started having some complications with my pregnancy and had to start modified bed rest. Meaning all of the snacks and DIYs would have to be put on the back burner.
We ended up ordering all the decor from Oriental Trading, only inviting family and very few close friends, we got snack trays from Wal Mart, and I made Funfetti cupcakes from a boxed mix. I was bummed I couldn’t give Sawyer the pinterest-worthy party I had envisioned, but you know what, it didn’t matter.
So Sawyer is over 1 year old now. I spend a ton of time designing his nursery, it came out so adorable, I’m a blogger, and yet I’ve never shared his nursery! That’s weird, right? It never dawned on me until now that I should share it. I worked hard on it and it came out great!
(after finishing this post, I remembered why I never shared before. The lighting in his room is not that great and the pictures never came out very good. Oh, well!)
When I was pregnant with Sawyer, I couldn’t wait to get started on the nursery. It’s the only room in our house I truly decorated from start to finish (I’m making up for that now by redoing the living room and master bedroom), and I had so much fun with it!
The first thing we needed was a theme. I originally wanted to do a nautical theme, but every single friend I had who was pregnant with a boy (and I was coincidentally pregnant at the same time as a lot of my friends and acquaintances), was doing a nautical theme! And I wanted to be original, but still do something fun.
Alright y’all, I am officially embracing fall. Now that our vacation is over, the recap has been posted, the pictures printed, the suitcases unpacked, I can finally accept that fall is here. We’ve even had a few chilly days and I’ve been putting out my fall decor! Last weekend, we hit up our local mall to find some fall pieces for Sawyer. Last year, he was 3 months old, and obviously, we can’t reuse anything so we’re in the market for a toddler fall wardrobe!
That’s why I was excited when I found Jennifer Ann Style. As much as I love shopping at the local mall, it’s draining, and everything looks the same. Jennifer Ann can personalize your little one’s clothes for you and it’s adorable!
You only get one chance to announce your pregnancy! It should be special to you, and eye catching to your social media following!
When we announced our pregnancy with Sawyer I scoured Pinterest for weeks trying to find the perfect announcement. I didn’t want anything cliche, and I wanted it to be unique and special. A picture that we could frame and love forever.
I chose right.
Although I did draw inspiration from Pinterest, the image is my own and I had an incredible photographer. To this day it is my most popular blog post ever and it has been re-pinned on Pinterest over 27,000 times! A lot of the traffic to my blog comes from this one pin! Basically, a lot of my success as a blogger comes from my pregnancy announcement (which just goes to show that your content can make or break you! If you ever have questions about starting a blog you can always contact me).
Note: I wrote this before Sawyer’s first birthday but never published it! It escaped my mind until now and I figured I should get it published before I get his 12 month one up!
I’m pretty late in posting this, given that he will be one in less than a week (cue the tears), but here is Sawyer’s 11 month update!
At his last check up (9 months) he was 20lbs 15 oz and 30 inches long. I would assume he’s at least 22 lbs by now and that he’s grown about an inch. He’s huge!
Ever since he self-weaned and switched to formula he’s been growing like a weed! I’m so glad to have the weigh issues behind us and have my squishy chunky baby.
I’ve been so excited to put this post together! A few weeks ago we took our first family vacation as a family of 3! And it was mine and Kurtis’ first real vacation in almost 3 years! It was wonderful and it made us realize we really need to make it a personal and financial priority to go on more vacations. At least one per year. It’s good for the soul!
A little backstory on Balboa Island, it’s my favorite place in the whole world. Even more so than Disneyland (my second favorite place in the whole world). You may have even seen it in my about section. It’s located just off the coast of Newport, CA (you drive over a bridge to get there), and it’s a gorgeous, sleepy little town, perfectly preserved in what feels like the 1960’s. It’s small (you can walk the whole thing), and oh, so beautiful! Every house is completely unique and gorgeous, and both sides of the island face out into the beautiful bay.
